About the role#
The Student Nurse Extern role provides direct personal support to patients within the medicine and surgical programs. This is a temporary, part-time position working under the supervision of Registered Nurses and Registered Practical Nurses. Externs assist with basic care needs for up to 10 patients at a time.
What you'll do#
- Provide direct personal support and assist patients with activities of daily living, including bathing, toileting, and feeding.
- Document activities of daily living and relevant patient communication.
- Report any clinical concerns immediately to your direct supervisor.
- Work within department policies and procedures while receiving ongoing mentoring.
What you'll need#
- Currently enrolled in years 2-4 of a nursing program.
- Current CPR certification.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work well within an inter-professional healthcare team.
- Demonstrated understanding of technology use.
- Good work attendance.
- Completion of mandatory training modules including privacy, confidentiality, WHMIS, fire safety, and hand hygiene.
Location & details#
- Location: Humber River Health, Wilson Site, Toronto, Ontario.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Schedule: Rotating shifts including days, evenings, nights, and weekends (8 or 12-hour shifts).
- Duration: Through March 31, 2027.
