About the role#
The Student Nurse Extern role is an unregulated healthcare position within the medicine and surgical programs. You will provide direct personal support to patients and assist with activities of daily living. This is a temporary, part-time position with rotating shifts that include days, evenings, nights, and weekends.
What you'll do#
- Provide direct personal support and basic care for up to 10 patients.
- Assist patients with activities of daily living, such as bathing, toileting, and feeding.
- Document activities of daily living, including intake and output.
- Work under the supervision of Registered Nurses and Registered Practical Nurses.
- Report clinical concerns immediately to your direct supervisor.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in years 2-4 of a nursing program.
- Current CPR certification.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work well within an inter-professional healthcare team.
- Demonstrated understanding of technology use.
- Good work attendance.
- Commitment to mandatory training, including privacy, confidentiality, WHMIS, and fire safety.
