About the role#
Humber River Health is hiring a Student Nurse Extern for the Critical Care program. This is a temporary part-time position running until March 31, 2027. You will work rotating shifts, including days, evenings, nights, and weekends in 8 or 12-hour blocks.
What you'll do#
As an unregulated healthcare worker, you will provide direct personal support to patients. You will assist up to 6 patients with activities of daily living such as bathing, toileting, and feeding. You will work under the supervision of Registered Nurses and Registered Practical Nurses. Your duties include documenting these activities, including intake and output, and reporting clinical concerns to your supervisor immediately. You will not perform regulated acts like medication administration or patient assessments.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in years 2-4 of a nursing program
- Current CPR certification
- Ability to provide basic assistive care with supervision
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Mandatory compliance with training requirements including Privacy, WHMIS, Fire & Safety, and hand hygiene
- Ability to work well within an inter-professional team
