WGAL News Intern - 2026 Fall

About the role#

WGAL-TV offers paid, on-site internships for the Fall 2026 term. This program provides students with hands-on experience across the News, Sports, and Weather departments. Interns will shadow professionals, assist with daily operations, and contribute to content creation. Schedules are determined based on mutual availability and academic requirements, typically consisting of 16 hours per week.

What you'll do#

• Newsroom: Assist with gathering news, research, and field work. Practice writing and formatting broadcast scripts and help produce content for digital platforms including the website and app.
• Sports: Research team and player statistics, pitch story ideas, and write scripts for daily sportscasts.
• Weather: Analyze weather charts and models, prepare forecasts, produce graphics, and assist meteorologists with data gathering and in-studio delivery.

What you'll need#

• Enrollment in a degree program related to Journalism, Communications, or Media Studies.
• For Weather department applicants: Current enrollment in a meteorology curriculum or a closely related program of study.
• A working knowledge of local and national sports scenes for those interested in the Sports department.
• A cover letter must be submitted with your application. This letter should specify your preferred department, availability, objectives, and areas of interest. You may also include relevant work samples such as writing or reels.
