About the role#
WGAL-TV offers paid internships within the News department for the Fall 2026 term. This program provides students with hands-on experience across various units, including the assignment desk, news production, digital content, sports, and weather. Internships are scheduled based on mutual availability and academic requirements, typically consisting of 16 hours per week.
What you'll do#
- Assist team members in gathering news and information, including research and communication with sources.
- Help research and write content for WGAL digital platforms, such as the website and mobile app.
- Practice writing and formatting scripts for broadcast.
- Support field work and news gathering operations.
- For sports interns, write scripts for daily sportscasts, research statistics, and pitch story ideas.
- For weather interns, analyze charts and models, prepare daily forecasts, and produce graphics.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a relevant program of study, such as Journalism, Communications, or Media Studies.
- Candidates for the Weather department must be enrolled in a meteorology curriculum or a closely related program.
- A working knowledge of local sports scenes is required for sports-focused roles.
- A cover letter must be submitted with the application, specifying department interest, availability, and objectives.
- Ability to practice story development and content creation for digital platforms.
