About the role#
The Reverb Video Fellow joins the MPR News social video team to produce original content for younger and more diverse audiences. You will report, shoot, and edit videos covering the issues and people that matter to young adults across Minnesota. This position offers the chance to develop your own series, analyze audience data, and collaborate with journalists across the newsroom to translate radio and digital stories into platform-native formats for Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube.
What you'll do#
- Pitch, shoot, edit, and publish short-form vertical video.
- Adapt MPR News reporting into formats suitable for social platforms.
- Work with reporters and editors to translate radio and digital stories.
- Ensure all video meets accessibility standards, including captioning.
- Assist with field production by gathering interviews, b-roll, and person-on-the-street content.
- Monitor trends, sounds, and formats to bring new ideas to pitch meetings.
- Track video performance and contribute observations to team analytics reviews.
- Collaborate with journalists across the newsroom.
What you'll need#
- A completed bachelor's degree.
- At least two years of relevant professional work experience in journalism or communications.
- Demonstrated experience creating short-form video for social platforms.
- Knowledge of journalism ethics and the ability to distinguish journalism from other social content.
- Familiarity with at least one video editing application, such as DaVinci Resolve or Premiere Pro.
- Strong visual storytelling instincts and attention to accuracy.
- Experience shooting video on phones and cameras, including field audio capture.
- On-camera comfort and a willingness to approach members of the public.
- Familiarity with social analytics tools.
- Ability to work nights and weekends as assigned.
- A self-motivated, resourceful, and detail-oriented approach.
Location & details#
- Location: Saint Paul, Minnesota.
- Term: Full-time (40 hours/week) from January 4, 2027, through December 3, 2027.
- Schedule: Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with occasional nights and weekends.
- Pay: $20 to $23 per hour, based on education and experience.
- Modality: On-site.
- Benefits: Eligible for sick time, health insurance as required under the ACA, and participation in the APMG retirement plan.
