About the role#
Join our engineering team to work with broadcast technology ranging from RF systems and HD Radio to streaming platforms. This internship provides hands-on experience in a live broadcast environment. You will work with engineers, producers, and on-air personnel to support the systems that connect communities through public media.
What you'll do#
- Assist broadcast engineers with the daily operation, monitoring, and maintenance of studio and transmitter systems.
- Help troubleshoot and resolve basic technical issues under the supervision of senior staff.
- Participate in preventive maintenance tasks, including equipment inspection, cleaning, and documentation.
- Collaborate with the Media Production Systems team to learn broadcast automation and news production system administration.
- Support technical operations and engage in professional development tasks.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a college or university, or graduation within the past 18 months.
- Majors in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.
- Ability to work full-time (40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.).
- Basic understanding of audio, video, and RF signal flow.
- Familiarity with broadcast equipment such as mixers, cameras, microphones, and transmitters.
- Foundational knowledge of computer networking, including IP addressing, switches, and routers.
- Familiarity with IT concepts like servers, storage, and automation systems is preferred.
- Interest in emerging technologies such as streaming, cloud-based playout, and virtualization.
Location & details#
- Location: Saint Paul, Minnesota.
- Term: Winter 2027 (January 4 to June 4, 2027).
- Modality: On-site.
- Compensation: $20 per hour.
- Benefits: Eligible for sick time, health insurance as required by the ACA, and the APMG retirement plan.
