About the role#
As the Marketplace Social Media Intern, you will help reach new digital audiences for our business news and podcast portfolio. This role focuses on hands-on creation and execution of social media campaigns. You will gain experience in journalism social media practices, content creation, and audience engagement across platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube.
What you'll do#
- Assist in conceiving, producing, and executing social media campaigns for Marketplace and its podcasts.
- Create content on tight deadlines, including graphics, carousels, audiograms, and vertical videos.
- Write copy to drive podcast downloads while learning our specific tone of voice.
- Brainstorm and research original content ideas.
- Collaborate with show teams to create engaging social content.
- Analyze social media metrics to inform future content decisions.
What you'll need#
- Current undergraduate or graduate student, or a recent graduate within the last 18 months.
- Ability to work 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
- Interest in economic news and its impact on people's lives.
- Knowledge of social media platforms, trends, and Adobe or other photo, video, and audio editing software.
- Strong writing, proof-reading, and editing skills.
- Proactive, accountable, and creative mindset.
- Familiarity with Marketplace content and voice is preferred.
- Majors in Communications, Journalism, or Media Studies are relevant to this work.
Location & details#
- Term: Winter 2027 to Summer 2027 (January 4 to June 4, 2027).
- Modality: Fully remote within the United States.
- Compensation: $20.00 per hour.
- Benefits: Eligible for sick time, health insurance as required by the ACA, and participation in the retirement plan.
