About the role#
The CBC News Journalism Internship Program is a six-week opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience in multiplatform news environments. This program is designed for students to parallel the work of the programs they are assigned to, helping them create content that informs, entertains, and connects Canadians.
What you'll do#
You will work in a professional newsroom setting to develop your skills in storytelling and journalism. Interns may be involved in various aspects of production, whether in front of the camera, on air, or behind the scenes. You will be expected to work full-time, Monday through Friday, though some placements may require weekend shifts or early morning and late evening hours.
What you'll need#
To be considered, you must meet the following criteria:
- Be enrolled in a journalism program recognized by the CBC.
- Have your internship be a formal requirement of your academic program.
- Be recommended for this program by your university or college journalism coordinator.
- Be in or about to enter your final year of study.
- Not have previously completed an editorial internship at the CBC.
- Be legally entitled to work in Canada.
- Ensure you are covered for all eligible insurance costs through the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities.
Location & details#
This is an unpaid, full-time internship running from January 11, 2027, to February 19, 2027. The primary location is the CBC Toronto Broadcast Centre, though some placements may involve other local newsrooms in Ontario. Work is primarily on-site, though some roles may function as hybrid arrangements. Please note that this is an editorial internship and is not intended for those pursuing careers in technical roles such as lighting, camera work, or switching.
