About the role#
The Music Therapy Internship at Park Nicollet and HealthPartners is a comprehensive, full-time program designed to prepare interns to function as professional music therapists. This internship follows the American Music Therapy Association National Roster guidelines and provides experience across various clinical settings, including inpatient hospitals, cancer centers, hospice care, and the Struthers Parkinson’s Center. Interns receive ongoing feedback and supervision from a team of board-certified music therapy supervisors.
What you'll do#
- Provide music therapy sessions for patients in accordance with AMTA guidelines.
- Deliver patient and family-focused care under the direction of staff music therapists.
- Facilitate both group and individual music therapy sessions across the health care network.
- Manage a gradually increasing caseload, including documentation in the EPIC electronic medical record.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and various administrative duties.
What you'll need#
- Completion of a four-year or Master’s equivalency degree in Music Therapy from an AMTA-approved academic program prior to the start of the internship.
- Ability to independently assess and treat patients who may be non-verbal, unresponsive, imminently dying, or have communication or cognitive impairments.
- Strong vocal skills, including a pleasant tone and the ability to sing accurately on pitch.
- Ability to provide your own transportation between work locations multiple times each day.
- Physical ability to carry and transport music therapy equipment, such as electric piano keyboards and guitars, to and from hospice locations multiple times each day.

- Location: Saint Louis Park, Minnesota, with additional clinical sites in the surrounding network.
- Term: Winter 2027 and Summer 2027.
- Modality: On-site.
- Compensation: This is a paid internship.
