The Music Therapy Internship at HealthPartners is a comprehensive, full-time medical internship designed to prepare students for professional practice. Following American Music Therapy Association (AMTA) National Roster guidelines, interns gain experience across a wide range of clinical settings, including inpatient hospitals, cancer centers, home care hospice, and specialized rehabilitation programs. Interns are supported by a team of board-certified supervisors and receive gradual exposure to clinical caseloads and interdisciplinary teamwork.
What you'll do#
- Facilitate individual and group music therapy sessions across the HealthPartners and Park Nicollet network.
- Deliver patient and family-focused care under the direction of staff music therapists.
- Document clinical progress in the EPIC electronic medical record.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and various administrative tasks.
- Engage in ongoing supervision and feedback sessions with at least three internship supervisors.
What you'll need#
- Completion of a four-year or Master’s equivalency degree in Music Therapy from an AMTA-approved program prior to the start of the internship.
- Ability to independently assess and treat patients with diverse needs, including those who are non-verbal, unresponsive, or have cognitive impairments.
- Strong vocal skills, including the ability to sing accurately on pitch with a pleasant tone.
- Proficiency in piano and guitar accompaniment.
- Ability to transport necessary music therapy equipment, such as electric keyboards and guitars, between multiple work locations throughout the day.
- Reliable personal transportation to travel between clinical sites multiple times daily.
Location & details#
- The internship is based in Saint Louis Park, Minnesota, with additional clinical rotations in Bloomington, St. Paul, and Stillwater.
- This is an on-site, full-time position.
- Available terms include Winter 2027 and Summer 2027.
