About the role#
HealthPartners offers a comprehensive medical Music Therapy internship program based at the Methodist Hospital campus in Saint Louis Park, Minnesota. This full-time program is designed to provide clinical experience across various medical settings and populations, including inpatient hospitals, cancer centers, home care hospice, and specialized rehabilitation centers. The internship follows American Music Therapy Association National Roster Internship guidelines and prepares participants to function as professional music therapists.
What you'll do#
- Facilitate group and individual music therapy sessions in diverse clinical settings.
- Deliver patient and family focused care under the direction of staff music therapists.
- Document clinical progress in the EPIC electronic medical record.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and administrative tasks.
- Utilize music therapy approaches to aid in the restoration, maintenance, and improvement of psychosocial, physical, or spiritual health.
What you'll need#
- Completed a four-year or Master’s equivalency degree in Music Therapy at an AMTA-approved academic program.
- Excellent proficiency on piano or guitar, with good proficiency on one additional chordal accompaniment instrument.
- Strong vocal skills, including a pleasant tone and the ability to sing accurately on pitch.
- Ability to independently assess and treat patients who may be non-verbal, unresponsive, imminently dying, or have communication or cognitive impairments.
- Willingness to learn a large and varied repertoire of music to meet the needs of people across different ages, cultures, and religious beliefs.

- Location: Saint Louis Park, Minnesota, with additional travel to sites in Bloomington, St. Paul, and Stillwater.
- Term: Winter 2027 and Summer 2027.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Compensation: This is a paid internship.
