HealthPartners offers a comprehensive medical Music Therapy internship program, established in 1998. This full-time, 1000-hour program provides hands-on experience across a variety of clinical settings including inpatient hospitals, cancer centers, home care hospice, and Parkinson’s rehabilitation. Interns work under the supervision of board-certified music therapists to gain experience in medical music therapy, hospice care, and neurologic music therapy.
What you'll do#
- Facilitate group and individual music therapy sessions in diverse clinical environments.
- Deliver patient and family-focused care under the direction of staff music therapists.
- Document clinical progress in the EPIC electronic medical record.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and administrative duties to prepare for professional practice.
- Provide sessions in accordance with American Music Therapy Association (AMTA) National Roster Internship guidelines.
What you'll need#
- Completion of a four-year or Master’s equivalency degree in Music Therapy from an AMTA-approved academic program.
- Excellent proficiency on piano or guitar, plus good proficiency on one additional chordal accompaniment instrument.
- Strong vocal skills, including a pleasant tone and the ability to sing accurately on pitch.
- Ability to independently assess and treat patients with diverse needs, including those who are non-verbal, unresponsive, or have cognitive impairments.
- Willingness to learn a large and varied repertoire of music to accommodate different ages, cultures, and religious beliefs.
- Access to a personal vehicle for travel between various clinical work locations.

- Primary location: Methodist Hospital Campus in Saint Louis Park, Minnesota.
- Additional locations: May include sites in Bloomington, St. Paul, and Stillwater.
- Terms: Winter 2027 and Summer 2027.
- Modality: On-site.
