About the role#
The Music Therapy Internship at HealthPartners is a comprehensive medical program aligned with American Music Therapy Association National Roster guidelines. Interns gain experience across various clinical settings, including inpatient hospitals, cancer centers, home care hospice, and specialized rehabilitation centers. You will work under the supervision of board-certified music therapists to provide patient and family-focused care.
What you'll do#
- Provide music therapy sessions to aid in the restoration, maintenance, and improvement of psychosocial, physical, or spiritual health.
- Manage a gradually increasing caseload of patients in diverse medical environments.
- Document patient progress within the EPIC electronic medical record system.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and complete administrative duties.
- Independently assess and treat patients, including those who may be non-verbal, unresponsive, or have cognitive impairments.
What you'll need#
- Completion of a four-year or Master’s equivalency degree in Music Therapy from an AMTA-approved academic program prior to the start date.
- Excellent proficiency in piano or guitar, plus good proficiency in a second chordal accompaniment instrument.
- Strong vocal skills, including accurate pitch and a pleasant tone.
- Ability to provide your own transportation between multiple work locations throughout each day.

- Primary location: Methodist Hospital Campus, Saint Louis Park, Minnesota.
- Additional locations: Bloomington, St. Paul, and Stillwater.
- Term: Full-time internship opportunities available for Winter and Summer 2027.
- Modality: On-site.
