The Music Therapy Intern provides patient-centered music therapy sessions in accordance with American Music Therapy Association (AMTA) National Roster Internship guidelines. This comprehensive, full-time program offers experience across various medical settings and patient populations within the HealthPartners and Park Nicollet network. Interns work under the supervision of board-certified music therapists to aid in the restoration, maintenance, and improvement of psychosocial, physical, or spiritual health.
What you'll do#
Interns are gradually given increased caseloads and responsibilities to prepare for professional practice. Key duties include:
- Facilitating individual and group music therapy sessions in clinical settings such as inpatient hospitals, cancer centers, hospice care, and the Struthers Parkinson’s Center.
- Documenting patient care in the EPIC electronic medical record system.
- Participating in interdisciplinary team meetings.
- Performing administrative duties to support clinical operations.
- Engaging in educational opportunities, including conferences and on-site workshops.
What you'll need#
- Completion of a four-year or Master’s equivalency degree in Music Therapy from an AMTA-approved academic program prior to the start date.
- Excellent proficiency in piano or guitar, with good proficiency in at least one other chordal accompaniment instrument.
- Strong vocal skills, including accurate pitch and a pleasant tone.
- Ability to independently assess and treat patients, including those who are non-verbal, unresponsive, imminently dying, or experiencing cognitive impairments.
- Reliable personal transportation to travel between multiple work locations daily.

- Location: Based at Methodist Hospital in Saint Louis Park, Minnesota, with additional rotations in Bloomington, Saint Paul, and Stillwater.
- Term: Winter 2027 and Summer 2027 start dates.
- Modality: On-site.
- Status: Full-time.
