About the role#

Harmony United Psychiatric Care offers a structured Psychiatric Office Assistant Internship program designed for individuals looking to build a career in healthcare. This hands-on, unpaid program provides foundational training in medical office operations within a behavioral and mental health setting. Participants work under supervision to gain practical experience, with the program culminating in a Certificate of Completion after 600 hours of service.

What you'll do#

Interns receive structured training and mentorship to perform the following tasks:

• Manage professional phone communications and patient scheduling.
• Utilize Electronic Health Records (EHR) through the MEDENT system.
• Facilitate patient check-in and check-out procedures.
• Oversee patient flow and maintain the waiting area.
• Apply principles of professionalism, discretion, and patient confidentiality.
• Assist with administrative duties such as faxing, copying, and filing.
• Gain exposure to medical terminology, insurance billing, and HIPAA compliance.

What you'll need#

• Must be at least 18 years of age and a High School graduate.
• No prior healthcare or office experience is required.
• Ability to commit to a consistent schedule, with a minimum of 20 hours per week.
• Must pass a basic screening, including a background check and drug testing.
• Strong motivation to gain experience for professional development in the healthcare field.
