About the role#
The Psychiatric Office Assistant Internship at Harmony United Psychiatric Care provides hands-on experience in medical office operations within a mental health setting. This program is designed for individuals looking to build foundational skills for a career in healthcare. Participants will receive mentorship, weekly feedback, and a Certificate of Completion upon finishing 600 hours of service.
What you'll do#
- Perform professional phone etiquette and manage patient scheduling.
- Handle patient check-in and check-out procedures.
- Manage patient flow and the waiting area environment.
- Gain experience with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems using MEDENT.
- Learn the basics of psychiatric services, medical terminology, and insurance billing.
- Assist with administrative duties including faxing, copying, and filing while maintaining HIPAA compliance.
What you'll need#
- Must be at least 18 years of age and a high school graduate.
- Ability to commit to a consistent schedule of at least 20 hours per week, including 10-hour full office days.
- No prior healthcare or office experience is required.
- Must pass a basic screening, including a background check and drug testing.
- Interest in fields such as Psychology, Public Health, Health Administration, Nursing, Biomedical Sciences, Human Resources, Communications, or Sociology.
