About the role#

The Psychiatric Office Assistant Internship at Harmony United Psychiatric Care is a hands-on program designed for individuals looking to build a career in healthcare. This program provides foundational exposure to medical office operations within a behavioral and mental health setting. Participants receive mentorship and structured training, culminating in a Certificate of Completion after 600 hours of service. This is a voluntary, unpaid internship.

What you'll do#

• Perform professional phone etiquette and manage patient scheduling.
• Assist with patient check-in and check-out procedures.
• Manage patient flow and the waiting area environment.
• Utilize Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, specifically MEDENT.
• Gain an understanding of the basics of psychiatric services, medical terminology, and insurance billing.
• Handle administrative tasks including faxing, copying, and filing while maintaining HIPAA compliance and patient privacy.

What you'll need#

• Must be at least 18 years of age and a high school graduate.
• No prior healthcare or office experience is required.
• Ability to commit to a consistent, full-time schedule of at least 20 hours per week, with 10-hour work days.
• Must pass a basic screening, including a background check and a pre-joining drug test.
• Majors in Psychology, Public Health, Health Administration, Nursing, Biomedical Sciences, Human Resources, Communications, or Sociology are encouraged to apply.
