About the role#

The Psychiatric Office Assistant Internship is a hands-on program designed to provide foundational experience in medical office operations within a mental health setting. This program is intended for individuals pursuing careers in fields such as Psychology, Nursing, Public Health, Health Administration, or Biomedical Sciences. Participants receive mentorship and structured training, culminating in a Certificate of Completion upon reaching 600 hours of service.

What you'll do#

Under supervision, interns gain experience in the following areas:

• Perform professional phone etiquette and manage patient scheduling.
• Utilize the MEDENT Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.
• Manage patient check-in/check-out procedures and oversee patient flow.
• Handle front desk duties, including faxing, copying, and filing.
• Learn medical terminology, HIPAA compliance, and the basics of insurance billing and coding.
• Maintain professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality in a healthcare environment.

What you'll need#

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• High School graduate.
• No prior healthcare or office experience is required.
• Ability to commit to a consistent, flexible schedule of at least 20 hours per week (10-hour shifts).
• Must pass a basic screening, including a background check and drug testing.
