About the role#
The Psychiatric Office Assistant Internship is a hands-on program designed for individuals looking to start a career in healthcare. This program provides foundational training in medical office operations within a mental health setting. Participants receive mentorship and structured training, culminating in a Certificate of Completion after finishing 600 hours of service. This is a voluntary, unpaid internship.
What you'll do#
- Learn and perform professional phone etiquette and patient scheduling.
- Manage patient check-in and check-out procedures.
- Gain exposure to Electronic Health Record (EHR) basics using MEDENT.
- Handle front desk duties including faxing, copying, and filing.
- Maintain professionalism, discretion, and strict patient confidentiality.
- Learn the basics of psychiatric services, medical terminology, and insurance billing.
What you'll need#
- Must be at least 18 years of age and a High School graduate.
- No prior healthcare or office experience is required.
- Ability to commit to a consistent schedule of at least 20 hours per week.
- Willingness to undergo and pass a background check and drug screening.
- Strong motivation to gain experience for career development in the healthcare field.

- Location: Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Duration: 3 to 6 months (600 hours total).
- Schedule: Flexible, minimum 20 hours per week (10-hour full office days).
