About the role#
The Hampton University Proton Cancer Institute offers a research internship focused on data collection, clinical trial support, and regulatory compliance. Interns work directly with Principal Investigators, research coordinators, and clinical staff to support the facility's ongoing cancer research initiatives. This is a full-time, paid, on-site position based in Hampton, Virginia.
What you'll do#
- Collect, record, and analyze research data from patient medical records and interviews.
- Manage data entry into electronic databases while ensuring high accuracy.
- Support patient recruitment, informed consent processes, and follow-up activities for clinical trials.
- Assist with the collection and proper handling of clinical data and biospecimens.
- Track patient progress in studies and monitor for adverse events.
- Help prepare research protocols, study designs, and regulatory documentation.
- Maintain records of study progress and ensure compliance with IRB protocols.
- Create reports and summaries of research findings for presentations or publications.
- Provide administrative and logistical support to the research team, including scheduling and meeting coordination.
- Prepare research materials and presentations for conferences.
- Organize research records according to institutional guidelines.
- Collaborate with the research team and attend planning meetings for seminars and events.
- Complete a final PowerPoint presentation at the end of the term to discuss projects, skills developed, and internship experiences.

- Proof of current enrollment in an accredited college, university, or technical institution, or graduation within the last 12 months.
- Proof of good academic standing, such as unofficial transcripts.
- A copy of your current academic class schedule.
- A recent resume and cover letter.
- An applicable course syllabus if you intend to receive academic credit for this internship.
