About the role#
General Dynamics Electric Boat offers a full-time, for-credit co-op program for students to gain experience in the defense industry. You will work alongside expert engineers to support the design, construction, and lifecycle maintenance of United States Navy nuclear submarines. This program provides an applied learning experience equivalent to an academic term, focusing on professional and technical skill development in a collaborative environment.
What you'll do#
- Collaborate across engineering disciplines to develop technical solutions.
- Participate in real-world engineering tasks with direct mentorship from senior staff.
- Contribute to projects including the Columbia Class submarine design and Virginia Class fleet enhancements.
- Work in various engineering organizations such as software engineering, naval architecture, combat systems, or pipe stress analysis.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment as a full-time student in a Bachelor or Master of Science program for Electrical, Computer, Mechanical, Civil, Aerospace, Industrial Engineering, or Computer Science.
- Completion of at least one year of college.
- Ability to participate in a full-time, for-credit co-op for 4 to 6 months during the Spring 2027 term.
- US citizenship and the ability to pass a background check and drug screen.
- Potential for a Department of Defense investigation to earn security clearance.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and strong communication skills.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
Location & details#
- This is an on-site, full-time position for the Spring 2027 term.
- Placements are based on business needs at facilities in Groton, New London, and North Stonington, Connecticut, as well as North Kingstown and Newport, Rhode Island.
- You are responsible for arranging your own housing and transportation for the duration of the assignment.
