About the role#
The Integrated Power Systems (IPS) Directorate develops systems and components for the COLUMBIA Class main propulsion systems. This group focuses on electric drive propulsion integration, secondary components, and the development and testing of ship systems for the United States Navy.
What you'll do#
- Perform engineering calculations to support component design disclosures.
- Generate and review engineering drawings and installation procedures.
- Interface with internal support groups.
- Prepare technical correspondence between the company, suppliers, and the customer.
- Review supplier technical and programmatic submittals.
- Support the development and execution of component testing.
- Work hands-on in the shipyard to integrate or troubleshoot COLUMBIA Class components.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a Bachelor or Master of Science program for Mechanical, Marine, Civil, or Electrical Engineering.
- Completion of your Freshman year before the start of the internship.
- US citizenship and the ability to pass a medically supervised drug screen and background check.
- Proficiency with the MS Office suite.
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Technical aptitude and an analytical, detail-oriented approach.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, on-site internship for Summer 2027.
- You must be available to work 40 hours per week for at least eight consecutive weeks between May 2027 and September 2027.
- Positions may be located in Groton, CT, New London, CT, North Stonington, CT, North Kingstown, RI, or Newport, RI.
- Interns are responsible for their own housing and transportation.
