About the role#
The COLUMBIA Design and Engineering Program Office is managing the transition from design to construction for the Navy's top acquisition priority. As an intern, you will contribute to and lead solutions for technical and program issues. You will collaborate across the enterprise, working with systems engineering, planning, contracts, and purchasing teams. This role involves direct interaction with ship construction and provides exposure to staff ranging from front-line teams to executive leadership.
What you'll do#
- Manage program man-power planning and oversight.
- Oversee and execute contracts for ships and key suppliers.
- Handle engineered component development and procurement.
- Manage urgent and future material availability.
- Work on systems, component, and life-cycle engineering products.
- Support design product planning, design changes, and product consumption.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a full-time Bachelor or Master of Science degree program in Engineering, Construction, Manufacturing, Engineering Management, or Naval Architecture.
- Completion of your Freshman year before the start of the internship.
- US citizenship.
- Ability to pass a medically supervised drug screen and background check.
- Minimum age of 18.
- Availability to work 40 hours per week for at least eight consecutive weeks during Summer 2027.
- Responsibility for your own housing and transportation.

- This is a full-time, paid, on-site internship.
- Positions are located in Groton, CT or New London, CT.
