About the role#
The Hydrogen Safety Research and Development Program at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) focuses on the use of hydrogen as a renewable energy source. A key part of this work is the Hydrogen Sensor Laboratory, which supports the development and deployment of sensors used to detect hydrogen releases. As an intern, you will work under the supervision of senior personnel to evaluate the analytical performance of emerging sensor technologies.
What you'll do#
- Use laboratory sensor test equipment to evaluate the performance of emerging technologies.
- Conduct laboratory performance testing and deployment studies.
- Perform data analysis on test results.
- Present findings to the internal NREL team and to external partners and collaborators.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment as a full-time student in a bachelor’s, master’s, or PhD program at an accredited institution, or having earned a bachelor’s or master’s degree within the past 12 months.
- A minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0.
- Laboratory skills appropriate for your level of education.
- Ability to set up experiments.
- Working knowledge of data analysis software such as Excel.
- Ability to obtain work authorization and gain access to NREL facilities as required by the Department of Energy.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a federal Personal Identity Verification (PIV) card.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test.
