About the role#
As a Pharmacy Intern, you will apply your pharmacy school education to real-world practice. Under the direction of a preceptor, you will complete a training roadmap to gain experience with store, district, and regional operations. This role focuses on supporting pharmacy teams while developing the skills necessary for a future Pharmacist position.
What you'll do#
- Support pharmacy teams to ensure operations run smoothly and prescriptions are filled safely, accurately, and promptly.
- Follow pharmacy workflow procedures at all workstations, including production, pick-up, drive-thru, and drop-off.
- Provide caring service to patients, including offering counseling, fielding medical questions, and soliciting medical history.
- Take telephonic prescriptions from prescribers and facilitate medication changes when necessary.
- Deliver health care services such as immunizations and point-of-care testing, including educating patients and monitoring for adverse reactions.
- Complete basic inventory activities like cycle counts, returns-to-stock, and putting away deliveries.
- Provide coaching and mentoring to pharmacy team members as you gain experience.
- Comply with all federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and ethical principles.
What you'll need#
- Active enrollment in an ACPE accredited college or school of pharmacy.
- Valid intern or technician licensure, or be in the process of obtaining it.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends.
- Physical ability to remain mobile, lift up to 20 lbs, and perform tasks requiring close visual acuity and repetitive finger motion.
- 1+ years of work experience in pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service settings is preferred.
- Ability to become immunization certified is preferred.
- Flexibility to work at your home store and travel to other locations within the market is preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite is preferred.
