About the role#
As a Pharmacy Intern, you will apply your pharmacy school education to real-world practice. You will work under the direction of a preceptor to complete a training roadmap, gaining hands-on experience with store, district, and regional operations. This role focuses on supporting pharmacy teams to ensure safe, accurate, and prompt prescription fulfillment while developing your skills for future pharmacist responsibilities.
What you'll do#
- Complete a comprehensive training roadmap and key learning experiences.
- Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and pharmacy workflow procedures at all workstations, including production, pick-up, drive-thru, and drop-off.
- Assist with prescription fulfillment and basic inventory activities, such as cycle counts and returns.
- Provide patient care by offering immunizations, point-of-care testing, and patient education where allowable.
- Monitor for and respond to adverse reactions, and document patient information.
- Field medical questions and take telephonic prescriptions from prescribers under supervision.
- Coach and mentor pharmacy team members while sharing best practices.
- Maintain a safe and inclusive environment by demonstrating empathy and care during patient interactions.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an ACPE accredited college or school of pharmacy.
- Valid intern or technician licensure, or be in the process of obtaining it.
- Ability to maintain regular attendance, including nights and weekends.
- Strong communication skills, active listening, and mathematical reasoning.
- Ability to concentrate on tasks, pivot between responsibilities, and resolve problems.
- Physical ability to remain upright for extended periods, lift, scan, and bag items.
- Preferred: 1+ years of experience in pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service.
- Preferred: Ability to become immunization certified and work across multiple locations.
- Preferred: Proficiency in Microsoft Suite.
