About the role#
The Synthetic Biology and Bioconversion group is seeking a full-time intern to join our team in Golden, Colorado. This role focuses on metabolic engineering and synthetic biology to create, screen, and optimize engineered bacterial strains. You will work on the production of renewable fuels and chemicals from biomass-derived intermediates and C1 molecules. This is a 40-hour-per-week, on-site internship with a typical duration of 3 months.
What you'll do#
- Collaborate with postdoctoral researchers and research scientists to engineer strains and validate physiological hypotheses.
- Use metabolic engineering and synthetic biology techniques to optimize bacterial strains.
- Maintain a clean lab space with strict attention to safety protocols.
- Document your work using contemporary laboratory notebooks.
- Communicate scientific findings clearly to your peers.
What you'll need#
- A minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average.
- Current enrollment as a full-time student in a bachelor’s, master’s, or PhD program, or graduation within the last 12 months in a relevant field such as Biology, Chemistry, or Engineering.
- Demonstrated experience in molecular biology, specifically DNA cloning and transformation.
- Demonstrated experience in microbiology, including sterile techniques.
- Strong organizational, critical thinking, and communication skills.
- Ability to work safely with minimal supervision.
- If selected, you must provide a letter of recommendation.
