    About the role#

    This internship position is based within the Building Technologies and Science Center in Los Angeles. You will join a team evaluating electrical upgrades to Rooftop Unit technologies to improve energy resilience and reduce conversion losses. This role is a hybrid position, and you must reside in California for the duration of the internship.

    What you'll do#

    • Model building energy systems, energy storage systems, and their integration with DOE prototypical building models.
    • Design control algorithms and simulation studies that account for various utility rate structures.
    • Perform data analytics and conduct technoeconomic analysis.
    • Work independently while collaborating with project team members.
    • Communicate research ideas and contribute to technical documentation or research publications.

    What you'll need#

    • Enrollment as a full-time student in a master’s degree program at an accredited institution.
    • A minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average.
    • A degree or current study in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Computer Science.
    • Knowledge of building sciences, building energy systems, thermal or electrochemical energy storage, and building controls.
    • Experience in modeling, simulation, and control of building energy systems.
    • Proficiency in simulation tools such as EnergyPlus, OpenStudio, or Modelica.
