    About the role#

    GM Performance Power Units is hiring a Supplier and Process Quality Engineering Intern for the Summer 2027 term. You will work on-site in Concord, North Carolina, supporting quality activities for Formula 1 power unit components. This role provides hands-on experience with nonconformance management, inspection, control planning, and continuous improvement under the guidance of experienced quality professionals.

    What you'll do#

    • Assist with daily quality activities, records, and improvement projects.
    • Support the creation and review of Supplier Deviation Requests and Nonconformance Reports.
    • Organize and analyze quality data to support root cause investigations and corrective actions.
    • Help Procurement and Quality teams with supplier evaluation, onboarding, and inspection data collection.
    • Assist in developing control plans for incoming parts, raw materials, and assembly processes.
    • Coordinate with departments like Manufacturing Engineering, Design, Additive Manufacturing, and Metrology to manage quality requirements.
    • Plan for upcoming builds by identifying inspection needs and measurement tools.
    • Participate in supervised inspections of precision components and document results.
    • Contribute to Advanced Product Quality Planning and the revision of Quality Management System documentation.

    What you'll need#

    • Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, or Quality Engineering.
    • Interest in manufacturing, metrology, inspection, and continuous improvement.
    • Familiarity with Microsoft Excel and data analysis tools.
    • Exposure to CAD software like NX or SolidWorks is helpful.
    • Coursework or projects involving engineering drawings, statistics, or manufacturing processes.
    • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow technical instructions.
    • Ability to work effectively with internal teams and external suppliers.
    • Willingness to ask questions, accept feedback, and learn new processes.
    • Ability to work in race shop and commercial facility environments, including areas that may be loud or high-traffic.
