About the role#
GM Performance Power Units is hiring an Additive Manufacturing Student Placement to support the development of a Formula 1 power unit. This is a hands-on, full-time role based in Concord, North Carolina. You will work across operations, process development, and design while collaborating with engineers on real-world projects.
What you'll do#
- Operate and maintain additive manufacturing equipment, including setup, calibration, and basic repairs.
- Manage daily lab tasks such as inventory tracking, consumables management, and handling metal powders.
- Process parts and perform post-processing tasks according to established instructions.
- Enter production data into systems like IFS to track jobs and equipment status.
- Assist engineers with design-for-additive-manufacturing (DfAM) principles, CAD model preparation, and build simulations.
- Write Python code to automate repetitive tasks and improve workflow efficiency.
- Execute independent design projects, including fixtures and demonstration parts.
- Document processes by creating and updating standard operating procedures and work instructions.
- Monitor process variables during builds and support material characterization activities.
What you'll need#
- Current or recent enrollment in a college or technical program for engineering, technology, or a related field.
- Ability to work full time on-site from May 2027 through December 2027.
- Previous experience working in a machine shop and knowledge of equipment safety protocols.
- A background in manufacturing and familiarity with basic documentation practices.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work well within a team.
- A growth mindset and the ability to manage multiple projects independently.
- Comfort working in diverse environments, including areas that may be loud or high-traffic.
