    About the role#

    GM Performance Power Units is hiring an EHS Technical Programs Intern for the Summer 2027 term. You will support our Environmental, Health, and Safety team by researching regulatory requirements and developing essential workplace documentation. This role focuses on translating technical standards into clear, practical instructions for our manufacturing, test, and facility operations. You will work alongside experienced professionals to build your skills in compliance, technical writing, and safety program management.

    What you'll do#

    • Research federal, state, and local EHS requirements to guide policy development.
    • Draft and revise EHS policies, work instructions, forms, and program documentation.
    • Support safety initiatives regarding hazard communication, PPE, machine safety, ergonomics, and emergency preparedness.
    • Assist with environmental programs covering waste, chemical management, air, water, and spill prevention.
    • Maintain EHS records, permits, and inspection reports.
    • Conduct EHS inspections and audits to identify compliance gaps.
    • Build and maintain Excel-based tools to track compliance obligations and corrective actions.
    • Create EHS training materials and employee communications.
    • Complete an independent health and safety project during your internship.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment in a degree program for Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Safety Engineering, Technical Communication, Professional Writing, or a related field.
    • A basic understanding of workplace safety principles.
    • Strong technical writing, editing, and document-formatting skills.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft 365, specifically Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
    • Ability to collaborate with engineers, technicians, and leadership.
    • Comfort working in active manufacturing, laboratory, and test environments.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
