About the role#
Freeport-McMoRan offers a full-time, paid internship for the Summer 2027 term. This role is based on-site in Phoenix, Arizona. The position provides hands-on experience in metallurgical and chemical testing within a mining environment. This role may be eligible for immigration work visa sponsorship based on business needs and performance.
What you'll do#
- Provide technical support and advice for metallurgical and chemical testing.
- Review new or enhanced testing equipment and protocols.
- Conduct metallurgical studies and analyses.
- Prepare standard reports on process issues and recommend corrective actions.
- Evaluate and administer vendor contracts for services and equipment.
- Learn about local, state, and federal regulations relevant to the site.
- Work with operating and maintenance teams to improve safety, productivity, and environmental performance.
What you'll need#
- Current full-time enrollment in a bachelor’s or higher degree program in Metallurgical, Chemical, or a related Engineering field.
- Recent graduates who earned their degree within 12 months of the internship start date are also eligible.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Strong data analysis, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
- Capacity to work under pressure, multi-task, and meet deadlines.
- Ability to follow safety standards and work in environments that may include temperature extremes, moving parts, or airborne particles.
- Willingness to wear required personal protective equipment, such as hard hats, safety glasses, and steel-toe boots.
