About the role#
The Controls Software Design Co-op will contribute to machine concepts, software design, and the integration of software with electrical and mechanical systems. Reporting to the Software Design Supervisor, you will assist in process development and machine installation, working on programming assignments that utilize PLCs, PCs, robotics, motion controllers, vision systems, and lasers.
What you'll do#
- Design and develop PLC or PC-based software programs tailored to specific customer and project requirements.
- Debug and commission control systems during the system integration stage at Eclipse facilities and during installation at customer sites.
- Select, test, and integrate hardware and software components, including robots, motion controllers, vision systems, sensors, and lasers.
- Collaborate with the Controls Engineering department to improve integration methods with a focus on safety, functionality, and cost reduction.
- Test machine functionality to verify software completeness and provide accurate project documentation.
- Advise customers on technical problem-solving and provide training on machine operation, programming principles, and program structure.
- Ensure project milestones are met and coordinate activities across departments.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a post-secondary engineering degree, diploma, or equivalent program specializing in mechanical, electrical, or systems engineering.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to establish priorities and work with minimal supervision.
- Advanced computer skills in Excel.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a team environment.
