Software Design Co-OP (Nuclear)

About the role#

Reporting to the Software Design Supervisor, the Software Design Co-op contributes to machine concepts, control software design, and the integration of software with electrical and mechanical systems. This role involves working with PLCs, PCs, robotics, motion controllers, vision systems, and lasers to support project requirements from development through to installation at customer sites.

What you'll do#

• Design and develop PLC and PC-based software programs based on standard programming methods.
• Debug and commission control systems at company facilities and customer sites.
• Select, test, and integrate hardware and software components, including robots, sensors, and analog devices.
• Collaborate with the Controls Engineering department to improve integration methods for enhanced safety and functionality.
• Perform thorough testing of machine functionality to verify software completeness.
• Provide accurate project documentation and technical support to customers, including training on machine operation and programming.
• Monitor project milestones and coordinate with departments to ensure schedules are met.

What you'll need#

• Current enrollment in a post-secondary engineering program, specifically in Electrical, Mechanical, or Computer Engineering.
• Advanced computer skills in Excel.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to establish priorities while working with minimal supervision.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively within a team and coordinate activities across departments.
