About the role#
The Sustainable Food & Farming Program is seeking law students for a spring 2027 legal externship. This role supports litigation and advocacy efforts aimed at improving the national food system. You will work on projects that address industrial agriculture pollution and promote climate-friendly farming practices. This externship is unpaid and requires you to receive academic credit or fulfill a graduation requirement.
What you'll do#
- Conduct legal research and draft legal memoranda under the supervision of an attorney.
- Engage in litigation and advocacy work related to environmental and administrative law.
- Attend team meetings to discuss case developments and ongoing projects.
- Commit to at least 12 hours per week for a period of 12 to 16 weeks.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in law school as a 2L or 3L for the spring 2027 term.
- Strong writing, research, analytical, and organizational skills.
- Familiarity with legal research tools such as Westlaw.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Interest in public interest law, social justice, and environmental issues.
- Knowledge of environmental or administrative law is helpful but not required.

This position is available as a remote role within the United States or as a hybrid position based in our New York, NY or Washington, DC offices.
