About the role#
The Washington, DC Regional Office of Earthjustice is seeking a part-time legal extern for the winter 2027 term. This position supports litigation and advocacy efforts related to air pollution, greenhouse gas emissions, clean energy transitions, and water protection. You will work under the supervision of a licensed attorney on national and regional environmental issues.
What you'll do#
- Contribute to case development and litigation projects.
- Draft pleadings, briefs, and legal memoranda.
- Conduct factual and legal research.
- Analyze regulatory, policy, and case law questions.
- Assist with evidence gathering and strategy development.
- Attend court proceedings and client meetings.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment as a 2L or 3L law student during spring 2027.
- Eligibility to receive academic credit or fulfill a graduation requirement for this externship.
- A commitment of 20 hours per week for 11 weeks.
- Strong research, analytical, writing, and organizational skills.
- Familiarity with Westlaw and other legal research tools.
- Ability to work both independently and with a team.
- Knowledge of administrative or environmental law is a plus.
Location & details#
This role is based in Washington, DC. You may work remotely from within the United States or on a hybrid schedule from the DC office. This externship is unpaid and requires academic credit.
