About the role#
The International Program at Earthjustice is seeking a part-time legal extern for the spring 2027 term. This role supports our work with global partners to strengthen environmental and human health protections. You will work under the supervision of a licensed attorney to assist with strategic legal advocacy.
What you'll do#
- Conduct research on U.S., international, and foreign laws, policies, and case studies related to the environment and energy.
- Perform factual and scientific research.
- Assist in drafting memorandums and briefs, including citation checks.
- Develop human rights strategies.
- Draft public communications, such as blog posts and press releases.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment as a 2L or 3L law student during spring 2027.
- Eligibility to receive academic credit or fulfill a graduation requirement for this externship.
- Excellent writing, research, analytical, and organizational skills.
- Familiarity with legal research tools like Westlaw.
- Ability to work both independently and collegially.
- A commitment of at least 15 hours per week.
- Knowledge of environmental and administrative law is a plus.
Location & details#
- The position is based in San Francisco, California, with options for hybrid or remote work within the United States.
- This is an unpaid externship. You must receive academic credit or fulfill a graduation requirement to participate.
