About the role#
This is a long-term, year-round cooperative education opportunity for undergraduate students. Unlike short-term projects, this role requires a commitment of at least one full calendar year. You will work on-site at our Midland or Auburn, Michigan facilities while simultaneously pursuing your degree. This position offers professional experience within a multi-national corporation and requires the ability to balance academic responsibilities with a professional work schedule.
What you'll do#
- Provide technical support to scientists and technologists by preparing samples and executing experimental activities.
- Use established procedures to characterize materials and operate laboratory equipment such as Gas Chromatography, Liquid Chromatography, Scanning Electron Microscopy, and rheology instruments.
- Manage and safely execute laboratory work requests.
- Maintain, calibrate, and perform routine maintenance on laboratory apparatus.
- Troubleshoot equipment issues and initiate necessary repairs.
- Record observations and data accurately.
- Maintain inventories of chemicals, consumables, and laboratory supplies.
- Communicate effectively with lead scientists and technology leaders regarding project status or issues.
- Participate in team meetings to discuss safety, problem solving, and process improvements.
What you'll need#
- High school diploma or GED.
- Current enrollment at an accredited college or university near the Midland or Auburn sites.
- Pursuing an undergraduate degree in Chemistry, Computer Science, Physics, or Computer, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering.
- Completion of at least 6 credit hours per term during Fall and Winter terms.
- Ability to begin work within 4-6 weeks of an offer.
- Commitment to the role for at least one full calendar year.
- Ability to work legally in the United States without sponsorship.
- Reliable attendance, punctuality, and dependable transportation.
- Strong attention to detail, ability to prioritize tasks, and a positive, cooperative attitude.
- A GPA of 3.000 or higher is preferred.
Location & details#
- This is an on-site role based in Midland, Michigan, or Auburn, Michigan.
- This is a paid, part-time position.
- Work must occur during regular business hours, Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm.
