Pharmacy Intern

About the role#

As a Pharmacy Intern, you will apply your academic learning to real-world pharmacy practice. Under the direction of a preceptor, you will complete a comprehensive training roadmap designed to build your clinical and technical aptitude. This role focuses on supporting pharmacy operations, ensuring patient safety, and gaining exposure to store, district, and regional workflows in preparation for a future Pharmacist role.

What you'll do#

• Complete a comprehensive training roadmap, including Key Learning Experiences (KLEs) and activities to build professional aptitude.
• Follow pharmacy workflow procedures at all workstations—including production, pick-up, drive-thru, and drop-off—to ensure safe and accurate prescription fulfillment.
• Offer to counsel, field medical questions, and solicit information on a patient’s medical history under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
• Take telephonic prescriptions from prescribers and clarify medication details as permitted by state regulation.
• Contribute to a high-performing team by embracing a growth mindset, remaining receptive to feedback, and sharing best practices.
• Deliver additional patient health care services, such as immunizations and point-of-care testing, where allowable by law and supported by required training.
• Maintain pharmacy inventory, including putting away deliveries and completing cycle counts.

What you'll need#

• Current enrollment in or acceptance into an ACPE accredited college or school of pharmacy.
• Must possess or be in the process of obtaining valid intern or technician licensure as required by the state.
• Ability to complete all required training within the designated timeframe.
• Strong attention and focus, with the ability to concentrate on tasks over extended periods.
• Ability to pivot quickly between tasks to meet patient and business needs.
• Ability to stand for extended periods and perform physical tasks, including lifting up to 20 lbs.
