About the role#
The Nurse Student Intern in Orthopedics supports the nursing team by providing direct patient care. You work under the supervision of Registered Nurses or Licensed Practical Nurses to assist with daily patient needs and maintain a safe clinical environment.
What you'll do#
- Assist nursing staff with delegated patient care services.
- Collect and record patient data including vital signs, weight, height, and oxygen saturation.
- Help patients with daily living activities such as bathing, grooming, feeding, and oral care.
- Support patient mobility by assisting with positioning, repositioning, and ambulating.
- Perform blood glucose monitoring via finger sticks and collect urine or stool samples.
- Maintain a clean and organized patient environment while following infection control protocols.
- Communicate patient information to the care team and participate in safety and performance improvement initiatives.
- Provide continuous visual observation of patients when required.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Nursing program is preferred.
- Up to 2 years of experience in an acute care setting is preferred.
- Basic knowledge of patient care practices and medical equipment.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to follow detailed instructions.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills for working within a team.
- Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and safety standards.
- Basic Life Support (BCLS) certification is required within 90 days of hire.
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Certified Patient Care Technician (CPCT) status is preferred.
