    About the role#

    The College of Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University is seeking an intern to support K-12 outreach efforts. Reporting to the Director of Engineering Outreach, this position involves working with community partners to facilitate educational programming, managing student outreach teams, and fostering relationships within the Pittsburgh community. This role requires 15-20 hours per week during the academic year, with the possibility of increased hours during the summer. Candidates must be available for some evening and weekend work and possess the ability to travel to off-site locations within Pittsburgh.

    What you'll do#

    • Collaborate with the Director of Engineering Outreach to support and follow up on community partner initiatives.
    • Manage student outreach teams and schedule site visits with community partners.
    • Assist in the development and implementation of engineering curricula, including the acquisition of materials and module testing.
    • Establish connections with engineering students interested in outreach work.
    • Build and maintain trust-based relationships with historically marginalized communities in Pittsburgh.
    • Provide guidance, skill development, and programming support to K-12 students.

    What you'll need#

    • Experience working with K-12 students and within a STEM field.
    • Proven knowledge and experience in developing or implementing outreach programming.
    • Strong time management, organization, and project prioritization skills.
    • Proficiency with G Suite applications.
    • Ability to obtain Act 33, Act 34, and Act 151 clearances.
    • Preferred: Experience working on college campuses in academic or K-12 student services environments.
    • Open to students majoring in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Human Resources, or Psychology.
