About the role#
The College of Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University is hiring an intern to support K-12 outreach initiatives. You will work under the Director of Engineering Outreach to connect with community partners and help manage student outreach teams. This role involves building trust-based relationships within Pittsburgh communities and requires travel to off-site locations for school and after-school programming.
What you'll do#
- Collaborate with the Director of Engineering Outreach to support K-12 initiatives and follow up on partner projects.
- Manage student outreach teams and coordinate visit schedules with community partners.
- Develop and implement engineering curriculum, including building materials and testing modules.
- Connect with engineering students who have an interest in outreach.
- Provide guidance and skill development to K-12 students.
- Attend weekly one-on-one meetings and participate in professional development activities.
What you'll need#
- Previous experience working in K-12 settings.
- Experience in a STEM field.
- Proven ability to develop and implement outreach programming.
- Strong organizational, time management, and project prioritization skills.
- Proficiency with G Suite applications.
- Ability to obtain Act 33, Act 34, and Act 151 clearances.
- Experience working on college campuses in academic or student services environments is preferred.

- Location: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Term: Rolling.
- Schedule: 15-20 hours per week during the academic year, with the option for longer hours in the summer. Some evening and weekend work is required.
