About the role#
The Student Financial Aid Office at Carnegie Mellon University is seeking an Assistant Director to support operations and provide service-oriented assistance to students, staff, and academic departments. This role involves managing daily processes, ensuring compliance with federal and institutional regulations, and contributing to the timely awarding and disbursement of financial aid.
What you'll do#
- Investigate, analyze, and resolve individual student financial aid cases for undergraduate and graduate students.
- Manage office operations, system processes, and prepare routine status reports and statistical analysis for management.
- Oversee Federal Community Service hiring, payroll re-distributions, off-campus employer invoicing, and time card processing.
- Establish new endowed and need-based expendable awards within the financial aid application system.
- Monitor and oversee the Outside Scholarship program, including receiving, posting, and crediting awards.
- Interface with departments to process awards and sponsored project expense allocations.
- Review eligibility for federal and state grants and coordinate communications with governing bodies.
- Oversee the Return to Title IV process for federal, state, and institutional aid.
What you'll need#
- Bachelor’s degree in business, higher education administration, or a related field. A Master’s degree is highly desired.
- Minimum of three years of experience in accounting, enrollment, financial aid, or a related field.
- Experience in a selective private, research university is highly desired.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent communication skills.
- Ability to work independently with little direct supervision.
- Strong reasoning, problem-solving, and prioritization skills.
