About the role#
Cadence is looking for a Graduate Student Intern to join our software engineering team. You will work on applying AI and machine learning to complex engineering data, including geometry, meshes, and graphs. This role involves researching new approaches for modeling and topology optimization while building prototypes to automate design workflows.
What you'll do#
- Apply AI and machine learning techniques, such as LLMs and Graph Neural Networks, to engineering data.
- Research and develop new ways to handle geometry modeling and mesh generation.
- Prototype AI-assisted methods to automate geometry creation and simulation preparation.
- Integrate AI technologies into existing physics-based applications.
- Analyze experimental results to improve the quality of AI-generated models.
- Reduce manual modeling effort by creating tools that accelerate design workflows.
- Document your findings and contribute to technical reports and software prototypes.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Master's degree or PhD program in Computer Science, Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a related field.
- A strong background in algorithms, data structures, and software engineering.
- Programming experience in C/C++ and Python.
- Practical knowledge of software development, including testing, debugging, and version control.
- Strong communication and analytical skills.
- Interest in applying AI to real-world engineering problems.
- Preferred: Experience with deep learning frameworks like PyTorch or TensorFlow, and familiarity with computational geometry, computer graphics, or CAD/CAE applications.

- Location: Austin, Texas.
- This is a full-time, on-site internship.
- The position is paid and follows a rolling term.
