About the role#
As a Materials Science Intern, you will work alongside our engineering team in Lynchburg to gain experience with materials selection, testing, and analysis. You will contribute to projects involving material evaluations and failure analysis within our Advanced Technologies group.
What you'll do#
- Work with materials engineers to support the procurement, fabrication, joining, and testing of raw material commodities.
- Perform material characterization evaluations.
- Conduct failure analysis to identify failure modes of metallic and ceramic materials.
- Prepare material performance specifications.
- Develop material evaluations and specifications for additive manufacturing applications.
- Collaborate with design and manufacturing engineers to resolve issues related to materials joining, machining, and processing.
What you'll need#
- You must be a currently enrolled student pursuing a degree in Materials Engineering, Materials Science, or Metallurgical Engineering.
- Hands-on experience and the ability to work in a laboratory environment are required.
- You must be a U.S. Citizen.
