About the role#
As an R&D Engineering Associate, you will contribute to the ideation, design, prototyping, and manufacturing transfer of medical devices. This role involves direct participation in regulatory approval processes, patent development, and clinical research studies. You will work within a hybrid model, requiring on-site presence at least three days per week in Mississauga, Ontario. This is a 12-month, full-time paid position running from January 4, 2027, to December 4, 2027.
What you'll do#
- Assist in device development through prototyping, testing, and 3D modeling.
- Create and execute verification and validation testing to confirm design requirements.
- Prepare regulatory filings in coordination with IP and Regulatory Affairs teams.
- Support clinical trials by working with external suppliers and clinicians.
- Develop technical documentation, including drawings and work instructions, and present technical insights.
- Monitor safety practices to ensure compliance with ISO 13485 and FDA standards.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet product development timelines.
- Maintain a commitment to patient safety and product quality in all tasks.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in or recent graduation from a Bachelor degree program in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related Engineering field.
- Ability to commit to the full 12-month program duration.
- Experience in laboratory or engineering test environments, including the use of standard measurement tools.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks, CAD, and Minitab.
- Knowledge of ISO 13485 and experience in highly regulated manufacturing environments.
- Familiarity with Six Sigma or LEAN methodologies.
- Previous internship, co-op, or project experience involving product design, testing, or development.
- Strong problem-solving, leadership, and communication skills.
- A hands-on, self-starting approach and a strong interest in biomedical technology.
