The Baylor University Institute for Oral History is seeking a Digital Technician to support the expansion of its online presence and the curation of its oral history collection. This role is designed for students with technical interests who can assist with specialized operational functions and media processing. The position is ongoing with a rolling term and requires a minimum commitment of 10 hours per week during standard business hours.
What you'll do#
- Accession new interviews, including preparing preservation master files, creating access MP3s, and managing biographical data in FileMaker Pro.
- Support the digitization project by preparing analog media for the Ray I. Riley Digitization Center and tracking progress within the database.
- Prepare transcript and audio files for upload to the Quartex content management system by creating metadata profiles and updating records.
- Maintain strict confidentiality regarding all materials and transcripts handled within the institute.
- Adhere to a reliable work schedule and maintain a clean, quiet, and efficient workspace.
What you'll need#
- Proficiency in digitization and media processing techniques.
- Experience managing databases, specifically FileMaker Pro.
- High attention to detail, particularly regarding metadata creation.
- Ability to follow confidentiality protocols and maintain a professional work environment.
- Majors in History, Communications, Media Studies, Computer Science, Graphic Design, Art, Business Administration, or Journalism are preferred.
Location & details#
- Location: Carroll Library, Waco, Texas.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Compensation: Paid position at $10.00/hr.
- Schedule: Minimum 10 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
