About the role#
The Baylor University Institute for Oral History is seeking a Digital Technician to support the expansion of its online presence and the curation of its oral history collection. This role focuses on the technical processing of media, database management, and the preparation of digital assets for the university's online content management system. This is an ongoing, part-time student position reporting to the Collection Manager.
What you'll do#
- Accession new interviews into the collection by preparing preservation masters, creating access MP3s, and managing biographical data in FileMaker Pro.
- Assist with the BUIOH digitization project by preparing analog media for the Ray I. Riley Digitization Center and tracking progress in the database.
- Prepare transcript and audio files for upload to Quartex, including metadata creation and profile management.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding all materials and transcripts handled during the process.
- Maintain a reliable work schedule and keep a clean, organized, and professional work area.
What you'll need#
- Technical skills in digitization and media processing.
- Experience or ability to manage databases, specifically FileMaker Pro.
- Strong attention to detail, particularly in metadata creation.
- A clear understanding of confidentiality protocols and professional office conduct.
- Current enrollment as a student at Baylor University, with a preference for majors including History, Communications, Media Studies, Computer Science, Graphic Design, Art, Business Administration, or Journalism.
Location & details#
- Location: Carroll Library, Waco, Texas.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Schedule: Minimum of 10 hours per week, between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM.
- Employment Term: Ongoing (rolling).
- Compensation: Paid position.
