About the role#
As a Radiation Effects Engineer Intern, you will support the modeling, analysis, and electrical testing of spacecraft hardware within the space radiation environment. You will contribute to the characterization of electrical component degradation and execute hardware testing at laboratories across the United States. This is a full-time, paid, on-site internship for the Fall 2026 term.
What you'll do#
- Evaluate and electrically test fault-tolerant electrical systems operating in a radiation environment.
- Assist in creating electrical test plans, developing test fixtures, and documenting test activities and results.
- Support radiation testing campaigns for Total Ionizing Dose (TID) and Single Event Effects (SEE), focusing on parametric characterization.
- Collaborate across disciplines to inform design decisions regarding radiation considerations.
- Support early-stage development activities including breadboarding electrical circuits, verifying automated test setups, and fabricating cable harnesses.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or Computer Science.
- Strong proficiency with electronics lab equipment, including oscilloscopes, multimeters, and power supplies.
- Experience with Altium Designer or other PCB design software for schematic capture and board layout.
- Demonstrated ability to design, build, and rigorously test electrical hardware from scratch.
- US Citizenship or Green Card status is required to comply with government space technology export regulations.
- Bonus qualifications include familiarity with space radiation environments, SPICE-based simulators, soldering, and radiation transport software.
