About the role#
Astranis is looking for a Mechanical Engineer Intern for the Winter 2027 term. This is a full-time, on-site, paid position based in San Francisco. You will join our engineering team to work on satellite hardware and software. We focus on giving interns meaningful work on complex projects. Many of our past interns have seen their designs reach space and have transitioned into full-time roles.
What you'll do#
- Collaborate with the engineering team to design, build, and test satellite hardware and software.
- Design, evaluate, procure, assemble, and test structures, bracketry, and mechanisms for spacecraft.
- Work with composite and metallic parts using various manufacturing techniques.
- Perform mechanical and thermal analysis for spacecraft systems.
- Integrate parts and systems into the spacecraft.
- Document and develop procedures to improve our build processes.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a B.S. program for mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, physics, mathematics, or an equivalent technical degree.
- A demonstrated ability to personally design, build, and test hardware from scratch.
- Enthusiasm for hardware development.
- Experience with CAD software.
- Experience with analytical software for stress or thermal analysis.
- U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residency, or refugee/asylee status is required to comply with export regulations.
