About the role#
This position is based at Carolinas Medical Center on the 3T Medical/Oncology unit. As a Student Nurse Scholar + 4, you will work in a part-time capacity, supporting clinical staff while gaining hands-on experience in a hospital setting. This role involves 12-hour shifts that include rotating holidays and weekends.
What you'll do#
- Assist patients with activities of daily living, personal hygiene, feeding, and ambulation.
- Monitor patient conditions by taking vital signs, height, and weight measurements, and reporting any changes to the care team.
- Maintain patient rooms and manage inventory and medical supply stocks.
- Provide clerical support, including data entry and answering phones.
- Perform technical tasks such as 12-lead Electrocardiograms and routine venipuncture after receiving training.
- Execute specialized tasks under the Nurse Aide I+4 process, including oxygen therapy, nutrition activities, sterile technique, and assisting with peripheral IV fluids and urinary catheters.
- Orient patients and families to the unit and instruct them on safety measures.
What you'll need#
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Current standing in a Registered Nurse academic program (completion of at least the first semester is preferred).
- Current listing on the state Department of Health and Human Services Nurse Aide I Registry prior to your start date.
- BLS certification.
- Completion of the Nurse Aide I+4 course, which includes e-learning and instructor-led skills practice.
- Ability to lift and support 35 pounds.
- Successful validation of skills by an RN twice before performing them independently.
