About the role#
This Surgical Technologist (ST) internship is based at Aurora Medical Center in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. We are looking for students currently enrolled in an accredited Surgical Technology program who are interested in pursuing a career with our team after graduation. This is a part-time, paid position with a flexible schedule coordinated between the RN Lead and preceptor to accommodate your academic and clinical requirements.
What you'll do#
- Assist with surgical cases across all specialty areas under the observation of surgical techs, OR nurses, or surgeons.
- Prepare the operating room by setting up equipment, including tables, cameras, microscopes, and instrument pans.
- Utilize aseptic techniques to prepare materials and provide a sterile field for procedures.
- Act as a scrub assistant by passing instruments, holding retractors, and anticipating the needs of the surgeon.
- Maintain specialty carts and ensure all equipment is in good working order.
- Transport patients, equipment, and supplies throughout the facility.
- Monitor the operating room environment to ensure safety, cleanliness, and efficiency.
- Provide age-appropriate care by assessing patient status and requirements.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited or approved Surgical Technology program.
- Completion of at least one clinical rotation may be required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification (AHA) must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
- Knowledge of aseptic surgical techniques and operating room equipment.
- Basic computer proficiency.
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting up to 50 lbs, pushing or pulling equipment, and standing for extended periods.
