About the role#
The Regional Bureau for Arab States (RBAS) at the UNDP is seeking an intern to support policy and research efforts. You will report to the Strategic Initiatives Advisor in New York. This role focuses on socio-economic analysis, including contributions to the Arab Human Development Report and studies examining the impact of conflicts on growth, poverty, and human development.
What you'll do#
- Conduct data collection and desk reviews of research related to macroeconomics, public finance, social protection, and labor markets.
- Draft and prepare policy briefs, technical notes, and economic assessments for regional stakeholders.
- Perform quantitative data analysis to identify and visualize regional economic trends.
- Provide logistical and substantive support for webinars, regional consultations, and other forums.
- Monitor and summarize macroeconomic indicators and policy shifts across the Arab States region.
- Maintain internal databases, knowledge repositories, and community-of-practice platforms.
- Document good practices, including case studies and pilot models, for wider dissemination.
- Prepare conceptual frameworks and concept notes for new areas of work.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a postgraduate degree or the final year of an undergraduate degree in economics, development studies, public policy, international development, or a related field.
- Recent graduates who can start within one year of their graduation date are also eligible.
- Experience with quantitative data analysis using software such as R, Stata, or Python.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and within a multicultural team.
- Proficiency in information and communication technology.
- Fluency in English, both oral and written.
Location & details#
- This is an on-site, full-time internship based in New York, New York.
- The position follows a rolling application process.
- Interns who are not financially supported by an outside institution or scholarship program receive a stipend to help cover basic daily expenses.
