About the role#
This position supports the anatomy laboratory at Wake Forest University Health Sciences in Charlotte. As a student assistant, you will help faculty and staff maintain the lab environment and provide peer-level support to first-year medical students. This role requires a commitment to professionalism, safety, and respect for all laboratory materials and donors.
What you'll do#
- Assist with lab setup, including the placement of plastinated specimens, models, and other resources.
- Move, rotate, and position anatomical specimens and lab materials.
- Provide peer support to MS1 students during group activities, open lab sessions, and other course-related events.
- Follow all safety procedures regarding PPE, body mechanics, and specimen handling.
- Carry out instructions from anatomy faculty and staff.
- Communicate your availability and schedule changes promptly.
- Track and submit your hours worked accurately.
- Complete all required onboarding regarding safety, donor respect, and role expectations.
What you'll need#
- You must be a current second-year medical student at WFUSM-CLT in good academic and professional standing.
- Successful completion of all relevant MS1 anatomy coursework.
- A strong interest in anatomy, surgery, radiology, medical education, or peer learning.
- Prior experience with mentoring, tutoring, small-group learning, or educational logistics is preferred.
- Ability to work cooperatively with students, faculty, and other lab assistants.
- Comfort working directly with anatomical specimens, models, and plastinates.
- Reliability, punctuality, and the ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries.
- Physical ability to stand, bend, walk, and move heavy anatomical specimens weighing up to 75 pounds with a colleague.

- Location: Charlotte, North Carolina.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Schedule: Part-time, maximum of 5 hours per week.
