About the role#
Advocate Health is hiring a Sonographer Extern to work at Aurora Medical Center in Burlington, Wisconsin. This is a part-time, on-site role that operates on an as-needed basis. You will gain practical experience in a clinical setting while supporting our diagnostic imaging team.
What you'll do#
- Operate ultrasound equipment to conduct general or vascular procedures.
- Review patient medical records, physician orders, and clinical history to ensure exam accuracy.
- Position patients and select the correct transducers and technical factors to obtain high-quality images.
- Differentiate between normal and pathologic findings and communicate results to the appropriate physician.
- Adapt procedures based on anatomical or diagnostic needs.
- Maintain accurate records, enter study information into the radiology system, and document billing codes.
- Label all images with patient identifiers and scan locations.
- Identify and report equipment performance issues.
- Provide age-appropriate care while ensuring patient safety and comfort.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited Sonography program.
- Completion of at least 12 months of training in an accredited program.
- Clinical competency in abdominal, pelvic, and routine vascular exams.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
- Knowledge of aseptic techniques and department protocols.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, work independently, and manage multiple assignments.
- Strong communication skills to interact with patients and caregivers.
- Flexibility in your schedule and the ability to adapt to changing environments.
- Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting up to 50 pounds, pushing, pulling, and transferring patients.
