About the role#
This Nurse Extern II opportunity is designed for nursing students graduating in December 2026. Based in the Neuro Medical Unit at Aurora St. Luke's Medical Center, this role allows students to gain clinical experience while working 8 hours per week. The position offers a pathway to transition into a nursing role with the same team upon graduation.
What you'll do#
- Complete activities of daily living, vital sign checks, and blood glucose monitoring under the observation of a Registered Nurse.
- Evaluate patient responses to interventions and communicate observations to the Registered Nurse.
- Administer medication as delegated by the Registered Nurse after demonstrating clinical judgment and proficiency.
- Develop delegation skills for working with Health Unit Coordinators and Nursing Assistants.
- Participate in emergency situations under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
- Manage patient care and synthesize data to identify status and needs while incorporating time management principles.
- Perform patient positioning and transport duties, which may require lifting, pushing, or pulling.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited nursing program.
- Successful completion of a Medical Surgical course that includes pharmacological concepts.
- Knowledge of growth and development principles across the life span.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and interruptions.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to meet physical requirements, including lifting up to 50 lbs and performing sliding transfers.

- Term: Fall 2026.
- Schedule: Part-time, 8 hours per week.
- Pay Range: $21.85 - $32.80 per hour.
