About the role#
This Nurse Extern II opportunity is designed for students graduating in December 2026. Based in the Neuro Medical Unit, this role allows you to gain clinical experience while working alongside the team you may join as a Newly Licensed RN post-graduation. This part-time position requires a commitment of 8 hours per week.
What you'll do#
- Complete activities of daily living, vital sign collection, and blood glucose monitoring under the observation of a Registered Nurse.
- Collaborate with the Registered Nurse to establish care plans based on patient health, education, and developmental needs.
- Evaluate patient responses to interventions and communicate observations to the Registered Nurse.
- Develop delegation skills for working with Health Unit Coordinators and Nursing Assistants.
- Administer medication as delegated by the Registered Nurse after demonstrating proficiency.
- Manage patient care and incorporate time management principles into your shift routine.
- Participate in emergency situations under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
- Perform patient positioning and transport duties, including lifting and moving patients using proper techniques.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited Nursing program.
- Successful completion of a Medical Surgical course that includes pharmacological concepts.
- Knowledge of growth and development principles across the life span.
- Ability to adapt to interruptions and changing priorities.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to meet physical requirements, including lifting up to 50 lbs and performing patient transfers.
