About the role#
This surgical technician internship offers students currently enrolled in an accredited program the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in an operating room setting. Interns work one day per week, with flexible scheduling available based on the site. The program aims to place interns at locations where they may wish to pursue post-graduation employment.
What you'll do#
- Perform preparatory and scrubbing services under the observation of surgical techs, nurses, or surgeons.
- Utilize aseptic techniques to prepare materials, supplies, and equipment, including assisting with gowning, gloving, and draping.
- Act as a scrub assistant and maintain knowledge of various surgical procedures.
- Ensure the operating room environment remains clean, safe, and efficient by setting up equipment, moving tables and monitors, and returning items post-procedure.
- Transport patients, equipment, and supplies as needed.
- Notify appropriate staff regarding any equipment or supply issues.
- Maintain specialty carts and ensure all instruments are in working condition.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited or approved Surgical Technology program.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification from the American Heart Association (AHA), to be obtained within 6 months of hire.
- Knowledge of aseptic surgical techniques and operating room equipment.
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Basic computer proficiency.
- Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting up to 50 lbs, pushing or pulling equipment, and standing or walking for extended periods.
