Surgical Tech Intern

About the role#

Advocate Health offers part-time Surgical Tech Intern positions for students currently enrolled in an accredited Surgical Technology program. This role is designed to provide hands-on experience in the operating room, typically scheduled for one day per week. We aim to place interns at locations where they may wish to pursue post-graduation employment. One completed clinical rotation may be required for consideration.

What you'll do#

• Perform preparatory, scrubbing, and related services under the observation of a surgical tech, OR nurse, or surgeon.
• Utilize aseptic surgical techniques to prepare materials, supplies, and equipment, including assisting with gowning, gloving, and draping.
• Act as a scrub assistant for surgical procedures and maintain knowledge of various surgical specialties.
• Ensure the operating room is clean, safe, and efficient by setting up equipment, moving tables, and returning items post-procedure.
• Transport patients, equipment, and supplies, and assist with patient positioning using proper lifting and transfer techniques.
• Notify appropriate staff regarding equipment or supply issues and maintain specialty carts.
• Provide age-specific care by assessing patient status and requirements according to departmental standards.

What you'll need#

• Current enrollment in an accredited or approved Surgical Technology program.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification (AHA), to be obtained within 6 months of hire unless otherwise determined by department leadership.
• Knowledge of aseptic surgical techniques and operating room equipment.
• Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
• Basic computer proficiency.
• Ability to meet physical requirements, including lifting up to 50 lbs, pushing/pulling with 30 lbs of force, and performing sliding transfers.

Location & details#

• Location: On-site in Aurora, Wisconsin.
• Schedule: Part-time, one day per week.
• Compensation: $19.00 per hour.
