About the role#
This Nurse Extern II position is designed for students graduating in December 2026. You will work on the Stroke ACE Med/Surg unit at Aurora Medical Center West Allis. This role offers an opportunity to gain clinical experience in a supportive environment, with a path to transition into a Registered Nurse position upon graduation. This is a part-time role requiring one 8-hour shift per week during the day.
What you'll do#
- Complete activities of daily living, vital sign checks, and blood glucose monitoring under the observation of a Registered Nurse.
- Collaborate with the Registered Nurse to establish patient care plans based on individual needs and preferences.
- Evaluate patient responses to interventions and communicate observations to the nursing team.
- Administer medication as delegated by a Registered Nurse, contingent upon the evaluation of your skill proficiency.
- Manage an increased patient load while applying time management principles to your shift routine.
- Perform patient positioning and transport duties, which involve lifting, pushing, and pulling.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited nursing program, specifically targeting December 2026 graduates.
- Successful completion of a Medical Surgical course that includes pharmacological concepts.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to adapt to changing priorities and workloads.
- Demonstrated ability to collect and synthesize patient data to identify status and care needs.
- Ability to provide age-appropriate care based on specific patient requirements.

- Compensation: Paid position with a pay range of $21.85 to $32.80 per hour.
